Nebiyou Yonas Tilahun

Nebiyou Tilahun directs the Travel Behavior & Urban Systems Research Group. He is an Associate Professor in the Department of Urban Planning and Policy at UIC.  He received a Ph.D. in Civil Engineering from the University of Minnesota and has been a faculty member at UIC since 2012.

Tilahun’s research focuses on travel behavior, transport accessibility, and transportation equity. His work examines how people value different attributes of the built environment with the aim of aligning policy and planning decisions with these values. His research has focused on the transit last mile problem, assessing the equity of transit accessibility, and how social networks influence travel behavior. Recent work has also focused on the safety and equity implications of automated traffic enforcement.
